White Island is another prominent feature in the McMurdo area. It is a low slung island surrounded by the Ross Iceshelf. The side facing McMurdo is heavily glaciated and almost totally snow white. There are several cirques which catch the light, and change with the changing direction of light from the sun rising and setting at a different point every day. These paintings show White Island in some of its finest lights in all of the seasons.
